DO-IT-YOURSELF SELF CARE: DOING WHAT YOU WANT
by Dhabitah Zailani
If you ever want to DIY anything, you can always just Google it. Quite honestly, I can’t tell you anything new that you can’t just Google. It also depends on what kind of DIYs you’re into, whether you’re artistically gifted or you’re into woodworking, or even just homelife DIYs.
However, I can remind you of DIYs in terms of self-care; things you can do when you’re feeling down. When you’re feeling low, everything you do yourself (get it, do-it-yourself) is a win - whether it’s getting out of bed, or finally finishing that assignment due weeks ago (sorry, school.)

DIY yourself...
A cup of tea.
Even if tea isn’t your thing, maybe you just haven’t found the right tea for you yet. Experiment with the different types of tea you can find at the supermarket. Make sure it’s actual tea, and not bubble tea!

A new list of followers.
We’re a generation of social media addicts. I follow school friends, and it’s all fine, until you’re sitting there experiencing a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out.) How are they having so much fun? Is it possible to look that good? Should I be going out more? How can that person balance everything so well? Social media is a nice illusion, there’s a reason celebrities have made Instagram their second home. Don’t follow any accounts that aren’t doing you any good.

A schedule.
When your head feels murky or busy, or you’re just stressed out of your mind; having a clear schedule can help. Even if you don’t actually do anything on your schedule, making it can be therapeutic. If you have nothing to write or you don’t want to do anything, you can doodle in your schedule or put stickers on (keep your sticker packs in the pocket in the back of those planners if you’re like me and you buy the overpriced ones. Oops?)

Make time in your day just for you.
Even during finals season, it can be so good to just squeeze in an hour where all you do is sit around and listen to music. Or even that one episode on Netflix that you’ve been thinking about ever since Netflix sent you a notification about that show you love. Even if you do nothing, you’re getting time for yourself. You can even pick a random day (a mental health day!) where you just don’t do anything. Just a fun add-on to your schedule or planner, a good way to motivate yourself is making a list of all the things you want to do during your me-time. Whether it’s music, Netflix, walking outside, going to the gym or sleeping the day away after a hard week - you’ll be happiest if you’re doing what you want to do. Of course, try not to give into your vices. Aim for relaxation and recuperation. Just giving yourself time to chill out.

RECYCLE AND RESTORE DIY
By Heewon Choi
Last Saturday, I saw that my desk was such a mess, so I decided to arrange it. However, it was kind of hard to tidy up so many things at once. For that reason, I
procrastinated on cleaning my desk.

A few days later, I went to a café to do some assignment with my friends, and I bought some cake to eat with my mother at home. After eating all the cakes, some idea flashed through my mind. I thought that the size of the paper bag for the cakes perfectly fit for my little cabinet. Then I decided to make my own basket. I cleaned up the paper bag perfectly and cut off the head so I could easily put my stuff in my new small cabinet!
In fact, the process of making the basket was not very difficult. However, there was something I felt during this activity. I easily get bothered with everything, and I don't find any meaning in doing something like DYI. But this time, as I experienced making small things myself, I felt that this was not bad either. It didn't take much effort, and my desk seemed much better than before.

There are probably people like me. People who get annoyed with cleaning and don't want to move. I would like to say that you can find a meaning in doing small activities. This activity has made a small difference to me. I hope those who have seen this article will make something they like during the quarantine period! It’s nice to make something for someone else, but I think doing something for myself is a really meaningful activity. This DIY can be used as a means to bring happiness to others, but why not make a gift for yourself?
